Testimonials about PAZ Books
"Phil
the books are excellent! Clear and very informative. The rudiment book (60
Essential Rudiments) covers it all very well. Now there is
no question on the counts! Perfect! The Brush book (Different Brush
Beats) will work well with them playing with the CD. Also,
the Theory book (Music Theory, Scales And Chords For The Percussion
Drum Student) will assist in getting drummers to think more
musical. Nice going with all this! Can I order these from your web site?" ~Dom Famularo - www.DomFamularo.com Teacher,

"Phil Zampino's "Different Brush Beats"
is an intelligent text regarding the art of brush playing. A seemingly
lost art of drumming, the younger generation of players need this information
presented to them in a clear and easily understandable method. Phil
Zampino has done just that. Clearly thought out and illustrated very well,
I've learned a few new tricks myself! Phil and the staff at Zampino's drum
shop had a profound effect on my early years as a musician. Without their
experience and the tools they gave me, I would not be where I am in my career.
I'm proud and blessed to have been educated in part by Phil and I'm glad he has
committed so much of his life to sharing that knowledge. Congrats
Phil! And I highly recommend this book." ~Russ Miller~ ~Russ Miller is

"Different
Brush Beats, by Phil Zampino, approaches the concept of brush
playing from two new angles: from a "contemporary" application and
through the use, and reference to existing popular songs. The explanation of
terminology, as well as the encouragement for students to use the brushes
provides some hope for the next generation in terms of recapturing this
important facet of drumming." ~Robert Breithaupt - mailto:BBreit@aol.com-

Different
Brush Beats, "Do you know where your brushes are? Playing
on the drum set has become so stick driven: the use of brushes is quickly
becoming a lost art. For the next generation of drum set players, and for those
who are in need of a refresher, Different Brush Beats is a must. The book
contains clear directions on basic brush technique and 14 brush beats. Each
brush beat is matched to a song from a CD (purchased separately); ideal for
learning when a particular brush beat should be used. Especially helpful for
students, the hands position for each brush beat is explained by visualizing
the snare drum as a clock face: the left hand moves clockwise at 11:00 and the
right hand moves counter-clockwise at 1:00. A final handy feature is a listing
of terms - so there's no confusion with terms like "snap, slap, hot spots,
or fat sound." After using this book, you'll never misplace your brushes
again!" ~Doug Wurst - Modern Drummer Magazine~
"Different
Brush Beats, I am a great fan of the brushes, and I used to play
gigs where that's all I did. Some times I got hired because I could play
brushes. Sadly, it's becoming a lost art, and it needs to live on. I'm very
excited about your book." ~Jim Howell III - Professional Drummer and Band Director~
"Different Brush Beats, Phil, your new book is GREAT! It' sure going to open the door for a lot of student's to learn how to play brushes correctly. I look forward to using it with my student's." ~Dave Dickerhoof - Professional Drummer, Percussion Instructor and Band Director~
"Man,
I was thinking the other day, drum set brush playing is becoming a lost art
form. You have to really search out the classic guys to hear it (Roy Haynes, Ed
Thigpen, Louis Bellson) and, is such an essential technique to add to the kit.
Phil has gathered some great ways to dive into this expressive drum set format.
With clear concise descriptions, beginning, as well as novice players, will be
able to use their brush technique in many suitable playing environments-Jazz,
Latin, Rock, Country. Get down to the drum shop, pick up some brushes, and
start "sheddin" with the help of Different Brush Beats."

"Different
Brush Beats, Phil, I went through your book and thought it was
great! I wish I could've had that as a kid; it would have made me understand
brush playing much quicker. It's great that each page relates to a song on CD.
It really helps to see how it relates to a certain feel and tempo. I also really
like what the Preface and Message to Parents and Music Teachers says." ~Shawn Fichter is

CUSTOMER COMMENT on Website
I was
interested in a book called "Different Brush Beats" by Phil Zampino,
along with an accompanying CD - I'd seen an ad about it in one of the drum
magazines, thought I'd check it out.
So I popped over to www.PAZPublishing.com
and found it. But the website was very
confusing in re: how to order the thing!
So I wrote Mr. Zampino an e-note advising him that the website was a bit
difficult to negotiate, ordering-wise. I received a prompt e-mail reply in
which I was advised to call in the order with my credit card info, which I did
the next morning.
Today I received the book and the CD, along with a letter from Mr. Zampino
informing me that the book and CD were being given to me gratis(!!!),
and in which letter Mr. Zampino apologized for any confusion I'd experienced.
Mr. Zampino thought I'd been patient and he complimented me for pointing out
the problems in "a gentlemanly polite way".
Changes were apparently also made to the website following the incident.
This is what a good businessman is supposed to be all about.
Frankly, I think Mr. Zampino went out of his way, and doing this was far beyond
the call of duty, but I want to take this opportunity to applaud his actions on
a public internet drummer's Forum of repute.
Far too often we hear complaints and horror stories - here's a commendation of
the highest order.
Thank you Mr. Zampino! I appreciate your gesture very, very much!
