Phil Zampino, having 4 children and 8 grandchildren
has been a life resident of
Phil has been a member of the NALC, Local 238, since
1968. He is a Lifetime Member of the
Timken Alumni Association and is a member of the Plain Local Schools Alumni
Association. Phil is a member and former
officer of the North Canton Elks (BPOE) Lodge 2029 – winning the first
Ritualistic Award for the Lodge in 1979, 3rd Degree member of the
North Canton Knights of Columbus Council, American Legion and the Son’s of
Italy Ben V. Marconi Lodge 1628. He has been a Boy Scouts of America Merit
Badge Counselor for many years. Phil was
a coach for the YBA Basketball Program at the North Canton YMCA, Plain Local
Midget Football League and Holly Hills Baseball Program. He has been a volunteer worker for the
Italian-American Festival. Phil was elected
as Regional Director of the National Association of Federal Injured Workers of
which he remains a member. Phil is a
former elected officer of North Canton St. Paul’s Parish Council, and has been
an acolyte for approximately 50 years.
Phil, a two-time cancer patient and survivor, was a volunteer for the
Canton Area American Cancer Society and wrote four songs for the ACS cancer
survivor’s celebration. In 2004 he
founded C-PAG www.PAZPublishing.com/C-PAG
[Cancer Patients Advocacy Group], a Cancer Support Group.
Phil was a member
of the Canton Musicians, Local 111, for approximately 40 years. He is a past member of the Better Business
Bureau, North Canton Chamber of Commerce, and National Association of Music
Merchants of which he was nominated for national office. He formerly was on the advisory board and
served as an executive officer of the Canton Bluecoats Drum Corps
Organization. Phil was responsible for
donating over $40,000 in the 1980’s in order for the Canton Bluecoats to get
back up and running. Phil was an elected
officer of the North Canton Chamber of Commerce and was the first head
chairperson to organize, “North Canton Chautauqua Days.” He was on the Board of Advisors for “The
Rainbow Repertory Co”. and was the Chairman for the Plain Township PARC
Development Committee. Phil served on
the Stark County Citizens’ Education Subcommittee Council for Non-Violence in

Phil is the Founder and former director of the All
Star Youth Band, Latin Caravan Group, and Bluecoats Cadet Band. In 1996, he was a mentor for “Youth
Leadership Collaboration 2000"-The Education Enhancement Partnership. Phil has been a part-time faculty instructor
at Kent State University Stark Campus since 1987. He is a former member of Rotary International
and served on several educational programs.
Phil served as an advisory board member to Spotlight on Youth.
Phil has been a music educator since 1961, and has
been a lecturer and clinician for many years.
In 1993 he won the “Private
Teacher of the Year Award.” Phil Zampino, the author, www.PAZPublishing.com has written
twenty-six educational music books, which have been published. In 2004, 2005 & 2008, Phil was recognized
world-wide in the Modern Drummer Magazine for two of his books
rated ****; “Theory Scales & Chords for the Percussion Student” and
“Different Brush Beats.” In February 2008, MD Magazine credited Phil as
being a “Master of Brushes.”
Phil remains an active member of the Percussive Arts
Society, Music Educators National Conference, and the Ohio Music Educators
Association. Phil wrote a music article “Should all Student’s Studying Music be
Treated the Same” - for the OMEA Triad Music Magazine which was
published and recognized world-wide.
Phil also wrote another article for several other Magazines, concerning
drum students being treated the same.

In January 2008,
Phil was chosen to be on the Worldwide Musical Drumming Educational Team sponsored by
Vic Firth, Inc. from

In May 2008, Phil
was selected by his High School Alma Mater Alumni Association as a
Distinguished Alumnus. Phil was presented “The Distinguished
Alumnus Award” and was honored in June
2008.

In April 2010, “The Plain Local Schools Foundation”
selected Phil to receive “The Excellence
In Arts Award.” Phil was honored
because of his contributions to the arts and for his long time achievements in
the arts throughout the Community and Beyond.
Phil was elected from 1989-2002 to the Plain Local
School Board. He was elected to be the Vice-President of the
